New Version – IBM Connections Desktop Plugins for Microsoft

I want to announce the october release of the IBM Connections Desktop Plug-Ins for Microsoft Windows –> Download here Link

It is only a minor update with the following enhancement regarding file sync capabilities:

NEW (as of October 2014) Indicate when a file is up to date or still syncing.

 

With this software it will enable your computer to use the the IBM® Connections Desktop Plug-ins for Microsoft™ Windows™
to share content between Microsoft Windows applications and IBM Connections.

Use sync capabilities to keep local copies of files synchronized with exact copies on the Connections server.

Use Connections Content Manager (CCM) document management capabilities to upload, manage, organize, and collaborate on community files in libraries.

To preview forthcoming features, set “Enable beta features” in the General Preferences tab.

The IBM Connections Desktop Plug-ins for Microsoft Windows provides the following features from Microsoft Windows Explorer:

  • Upload local files to IBM Connections from Windows Explorer or from your desktop
  • Share uploaded files with people, communities, or folders in IBM Connections
  • Work on files locally and publish them to Files, communities, Activities, or Wikis
  • View people’s contact details and get in touch with them (Connections only)
  • Pin, follow, or like IBM Connections files and folders
  • View or contribute comments for a file
  • Lock a file when you are editing it to prevent file conflicts
  • View and restore files from IBM Connections Trash
  • Share folders with IBM Connections Communities
  • Support for IBM Connections Social Cloud
  • Metrics – Provide usage metrics for file and folder view access
  • Community Folders
  • File sync – use sync to keep selected files synchronized with exact copies on the server
  • Connections Content Manager (CCM) – use document management capabilities to upload, manage, organize and collaborate on Community library files from the desktop
  • Expanded the MS Office Ribbon with additional File actions (e.g. Lock, Unlock / Check Out, Check In, etc.)

The IBM Connections Desktop Plug-ins for Microsoft Windows provides the following features from Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint):

Features added to Word:

  • Add a document to IBM Connections Files or Communities
  • Attach a document to an Activity or Wiki page
  • Publish a document to a Blog entry
  • Search for content in IBM Connections

Additional Word features (Connections only):

  • Add someone’s profile information from IBM Connections into a document
  • Add a bookmark from IBM Connections into a document
  • Add a URL from a document as a bookmark in IBM Connections

Features added to PowerPoint:

  • Add a presentation to Files or Communities
  • Attach a presentation to an Activity or Wiki page
  • Search for content in IBM Connections

Features added to Excel:

  • Add a spreadsheet to Files or Communities
  • Attach a spreadsheet to an Activity or Wiki page
  • Search for content in IBM Connections

The IBM Connections Desktop Plug-ins for Microsoft Windows provides the following features from Microsoft Outlook:

  • Add an email to Files or Communities
  • Attach an email to an activity or wiki page
  • Search for content in IBM Connections

Outlook Social Connector features (Connections only):

  • View social activities for email recipients and people in your network
  • Invite people to your IBM Connections network
  • View IBM Connections business card for email senders and recipients in Outlook 2010

The IBM Connections Desktop Plug-ins for Microsoft Windows support:

  • IBM Connections Social Cloud (see also Connections Cloud Limitations section below)

*The Desktop plugins work only with IBM Connections 4.0 and higher

*File sync works only with IC5.0 or higher

*CCM works only with IC4.5 (CR4) and IC5.0 or higher

Pre-req for CCM  – please follow these instructions to install an iFix:

In Fix Central: Enter this search string ‘2.0.0.1-FNCS-IF002’ in the ‘Search Fix Central’ box on the right.  The iFix for all platforms will appear.

*Metrics works only with IC4.5 (CR2) or higher

*Community folder support works only with IC4.5 (CR4) or higher

* Files, News, and Profiles must be deployed on the server for the plug-ins to function properly.

  • Microsoft Office 2010 Standard or higher (32-bit, 64-bit), 2013 Standard or higher (32-bit, 64-bit)
  • Microsoft Office 2010 Standard or higher (32-bit, 64-bit), 2013 Standard or higher (32-bit, 64-bit)
  • Microsoft Windows Vista SP2 (32-bit)
  • Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 (32-bit, 64-bit)
  • Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit toleration)

Connections Cloud Limitations

Some features are not available when you are connecting to an IBM Cloud server. For example:

  • Use of the Outlook Social Connector features
  • Type-ahead is not available to assist you in finding a group name
  • Type-ahead is not available to assist you in entering the names of external users in the Add to File dialog and the Share dialog
  • If you are uploading a file or email to Activities, the option to create a new activity is not available
  • Metrics is not supported in Connections on Cloud
  • Important: If you log into IBM Connections Social Cloud using the “Use My Organization’s Login” method, you will not be able to login and use the Desktop Plugins.
